Ahoy! This week students have the opportunity to visit Robert Crown’s Pirate Themed Book Fair during the school day and become a “Bookaneer” where “books are the treasure!” We are also holding a “Grand Event” on Wednesday, November 9th from 6:30-8, where students are welcome to bring someone “Grand” in their lives (a grandparent, parent, aunt, or uncle) to do some shopping, look for some treasures on a school treasure hunt, and enjoy Dippin’ Dots (additional charge). Come if ye dare!
Before you come to the Grand Event, grab some grub at Burger King. Mrs. Diol and a surprise guest will be taking orders from 5:00-6:30pm. Bring your coupon from school and Burger King will donate 20% of your purchase (designated meals) to Robert Crown’s PTO!

What a way to kick off our school year!! A special thank you to everyone that supported the Poppin’ Popcorn/No Hassle Fundraiser. We raised over $6650.00 for Robert Crown through our popcorn sale and No Hassle contributions! That money will be put to good use as we work on adding additional iPads for our students. Thank you again on behalf of the PTO board, we are truly appreciative. A special shout out to the Loomis Family, our highest seller. Great job to everyone who participated!!
Welcome to Fall!
Here’s what’s coming up this week:
Market Day Pick Up
If you placed a Market Day order last week, come to the Robert Crown cafeteria between 3:40 and 5:30 on Monday, September 22, to pick up your order. If you are unable to make it within that time frame, please call the school and let the office know so we can make arrangements for your order.
September PTO Meeting
Wednesday, September 24 is the next PTO meeting. Join us at 7 p.m. in the Cafeteria to hear what has been going on during the first month of school and what’s coming up!
Family Movie Night
Don’t miss one of the most fun events of the Fall! Family Movie Night is Friday, September 26, featuring The LEGO Movie!!
The movie will be shown in the gym and we’ll have popcorn, snacks and raffle prizes, too! If you’d like to help out that night, contact Carrie Hewitt.
Other Upcoming Events
Thank you to everyone who came out in support of the District 118 Community Crawl. We got great feedback from the participating businesses and were pleased to see so many generous people brave the sudden cold snap last Thursday to donate to the School Supply Drive at Back to School Night at the Wauconda Farmer’s Market!
Here’s what’s coming up this week:
Market Day Orders Due
Do you need to stock up on family favorites for dinner or school lunch essentials? The first Market Day order of the year is due this week, on Thursday, September 18. You may turn in the paper order form that your student brought home in his or her backpack, or place an order online. You will then pick up you order in the Cafeteria on Monday, September 22 from 3:40-5:30.
We are also looking for volunteers to help sort orders between 2:30 and 3:40 on the day of pick up. Contact Jessica Schachelmayer if you can help out!
Popcorn Sales
The first popcorn sales of the year are on Friday! Look for a reminder flyer in your student’s backpack this week. Each student has the opportunity to purchase 1 small 25-cent bag of fresh-popped popcorn during their lunch period. Kindergartners and Early Childhood students can also purchase popcorn and will bring it home in their backpacks.
If you have any questions or would like to help pop or sell popcorn on Friday, or any other “popcorn day” throughout the year, contact Jill Morino.
Room Parents/Classroom Parties
All Head Room Parents were notified by their teachers last week and will be meeting on Wednesday, September 17 at 7 p.m., to kick off the year’s fun and festivities! You should receive a letter of introduction from your child/ren’s Head Room Parent within the next couple weeks, as planning for the Halloween party — scheduled for October 31 — will kick into high gear.
As a reminder, only three additional parent volunteers will be allowed to attend the classroom parties and assist the Room Parent. The teachers will choose the parent helpers based on the feedback they receive from everyone and you will be notified if you were selected. Weather permitting, we will hold a Halloween costume parade around the outside of the building that everyone is welcome to attend, but only the selected volunteers can stay for the parties!
